Suggestions on Day Trips out from South Whittlieburn Farm, Largs

CAL/MAC Ferries go several times a day to the Isle of Cumbrae and you can either take your car on the boat, or leave your car in Largs and cross by boat and get a bus into the lovely town of Millport where you can hire bicycles and cycle the 8 miles round the flat scenic coastline of the island.

Take your car on the Caledonian Macbrayne ferry to the Isle of Bute from Wemyss Bay, and explore Rothesay and surrounding countryside. Visit Mount Stuart, the Marquis of Butes home (worth a visit!.) Then take the Rhubodach to Colintraive CAL/MAC Ferry and motor round the Kyles of Bute to Tighnabruaich - in my opinion one of the loveliest parts of Scotland. Then go via Loch Fyne to Strachur and back by the Dunoon to Gourock Western Ferry and then drive back to Largs.

Leave your car at Ardrossan and take the 9.45 CAL/MAC ferry to Isle of Arran and get the bus, which will take you all round the island with a stop for lunch, and the driver will point out the places of interest. Or go to Brodick Castle National Trust (it is very expensive to take your own car). It is cheaper to hire a car at Brodick Pier.

Drive over the Erskine Bridge, up Loch Lomond to Tarbert, call in at Lochgoilhead and Carrick Castle, then go on to Inverary and see thecastle and the jailhouse (which has won a lot of tourist awards) then either return to Largs via the Dunoon Western Ferry, or back by Helensburgh and the Erskine Bridge.

Why not try a wildlife tour boat trip with "Cumbrae Voyages" round the local islands.

Culzean Castle (National Trust) drive along the coast via Ayr and the fishing village of Dunure.

Robert Burns Centre, Dean Castle, Burrell Collections, Art galleries, Old Transport Museum, Rennie Macintosh, Dalgarven Mill are a few of the many places of interest. Also Kelburn castle and country centre.

What's the Big Attraction about Largs

Largs is the most attractive seaside resort in the West of Scotland and the gateway to the islands of the Firth of Clyde. It is situated at the centre of the best sailing waters in Europe and surrounded by the hills of Clyde Muirsheil Regional Park. It was named Scotland's top tourist town in 1995 by readers of The Herald.

From Skelmorlie in the North to Seamill in the South, the Largs Coast boasts a wide range of visitor's attractions, historic sites and things to do both on land and sea.

The town itself has a newly up graded promenade, theatre, amusements, lively restaurants, dozens of pubs and good speciality shopping. And every visitor will want to take the ferry trip to Millport on the Island of Cumbrae or explore one of the other beautiful islands across the water.
