The city lies on the bank of the River Soar and it also lies at the edge of the National Forest. The city of Leicester has a population of about two hundred and eighty five thousand one hundred and within the county of Leicestershire there is a population of about four hundred and forty one thousand two hundred and thirteen. Leicester is one of the most populated cities within the East Midlands.

Leicester is a thriving city that is located on the Midland main train line and it is also close to the M1 motorway, which makes it an ideal location for thriving businesses in the commercial and industrial sector. Leicester has a community that is very diverse and it is home for a wide range of communities including Hindu, Muslim and Sikh.

The city of Leicester also offers a wide range of educational establishment including higher education in the form of Leicester University, De Montfort University and also Loughborough University.

With there being such a vast range of nationalities within the population of Leicester there is also a wide range of languages that are spoken within the city. There is in fact about seventy languages or dialects that are used within the city. The Gujarati language is the preferred language for about sixteen per cent of the population. Punjabi is the preferred language for about three per cent of the population. Somali is the preferred language for about three per cent of the population and Urdu is preferred by about two per cent.
