| A comfortable 200 year old cottage of character and charm set in peaceful countryside within one mile of Dorchester. An ideal place to stay, whether considering a holiday in the area or a short break, offering comfortable accommodation in attractive surroundings, and where you can be assured of a most warm and friendly welcome. At the heart of Hardy country, in an area rich in history, it is an ideal base from which to explore Dorset's stunning coastline, its historic towns and villages, and its many spectacular country houses and gardens. Sites of interest include Hardy's Cottage, the Cerne Giant, Sherborne Castle, the Swannery and Sub Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury, the Roman Villa in Dorchester, and the ancient hill fort at Maiden Castle, which has its origins in the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. ![]() Alternatively, spend a day at the sea, at Swanage, picturesque Lulworth Cove, the seaside town of Weymouth (8 miles), Or visit the Jurassic Coast - England's first natural world heritage site, stretching 95 miles from Exmouth in Devon to Studland Bay in East Dorset. ![]() There is ample parking space within the grounds of the cottage and, for those seeking to unwind at the end of the day, there are pleasant walks nearby; in particular along the banks of the Frome, a typical chalk stream favoured by local fishermen. |
Accommodation![]() Twin bedded room with its own shower room on the ground floor. This spacious room has a colour television, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, and its own external door to the garden. Twin bedded room with sole use of a bathroom. This room would suit a guest perhaps a relative or companion, travelling with the occupants of the twin room. It has tea and coffee making facilities. Guests are welcome to use the sitting room where there is satellite television, and books and magazines about Dorchester and the surrounding area. |
Food![]() Breakfast, with newspapers, is served in the farmhouse kitchen until 9 o'clock, and in the summer may be served outside in the walled courtyard, when the weather is fine. There are several public houses and restaurants in Dorchester and in the neighbouring area, which between them offer a wide choice of food at reasonable prices. |
| Whitfield Farm Cottage is one mile west of Dorchester on an unclassified road (an old Roman Road) which links the town with the village of Bradford Peverell. The cottage may be reached from Bradford Peverell (approx. 1.5 miles) by those travelling from the Yeovil direction, but is most easily found by approaching from Dorchester. From the roundabout at the top of the town, drivewest towards Bridport on the B3150 for about 75 yardsbefore turning right into Poundbury Road, immediately before you reach the Devonshire and Dorset Regimental Museum (The Keep), which is also on the right hand side ofthe road. Drive along Poundbury Road for exactly one mile and, after passing over another road, take the second track on the right, at the bottom of the hill, when yousee our house sign. (Please ignore the first turning to the right which is a tarmac drive to a separate house). Whitfield Farm Cottage is set back 75 yards from the road. |
