Whites Dairy House, Dorchester, Front of House, 10K

Whites Dairy House nestles in the picturesque village of Piddlehinton in Dorset's lovely Piddle Valley in the very heart of the Hardy country. Originally the home of a tenant farmer, it was built during the reign of King James I in 1622. It is thatched and is an historic Grade II Listed building with plenty of ancient beams and interesting features. Recently, it has undergone a major refurbishment to enhance the old structure, while at the same time sensitively preserving the best of the old.

Not long ago, the adjacent slate-roofed Old Stables housed three horses and a groom occupied a flat above them. In 2001, the whole building was gutted and tastefully converted to form luxury double en-suite bedrooms. The building is fully centrally heated and has a fire certificate issued by the Dorset Fire & Rescue Service. Guests can enjoy the lovely views and the delightful mill stream that runs in front of the building.

There is a good restaurant with a large and varied menu to suit most tastes in the Thimble Inn, which is only about 100 paces from Whites Dairy House. It is open at lunch time and diner is served from 7 pm. There are four more pubs, also with restaurants, within a range of 3½ miles.

The Old Stables has recently been converted into three luxury en-suite twin and double rooms. All are equipped with a TV with teletext, a radio/alarm clock, a hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities. These rooms have been furnished to a very high standard and feature tasteful, but more modern furniture. Lucy's Room is situated on the first floor and has a shower in the en-suite. It is arranged as a twin room.

William's Room, this a slightly smaller room with all the facilities of the other rooms in the Old Stables, but with a very generous en-suite, which includes a bath with a shower head. The room is situated on the first floor and is arranged as a twin room.

Sam's Room is on the ground floor and the en-suite has a bath with a shower head. The room is arranged as a double. This is an ideal room for guests who prefer not to negotiate stairs.

In cool conditions, all rooms are fully centrally heated and have thermostatic valves fitted to the radiators for precise temperature control. In warm conditions fans are supplied.
We pride ourselves on our generous fluffy towels and face flannels.
There is a small selection of books and magazines in each room.

For those who wish to keep in touch with the outside world, we are happy to send and receive e-mails for a modest charge.

At the moment, only the Vodaphone mobile network works well in the valley.
