 | The Laurels is a lovely, rambling old house - deceptively larger than it looks from the outside. It was built and added to over a long period - and has served a variety of uses, including farming, candle-making, and umbrella ferrule manufacture. Its 'new' front was added in the late eighteenth century when the turnpike company built the road through the valley (now the A46), and it was known as The New Inn until the 1860's, after which it became known by its current name of The Laurels.
The emphasis is on friendly hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere. On the ground floor is the breakfast room and panelled reception room, which has an open fire on the chillier evenings. Five bedrooms, which are all en-suite, are to be found in the first and second floors, where the beamed games room with snooker/pool table and board games, is also situated.
Adjacent to the house and alongside the stream is the cottage annexe with a further three bedrooms, including a ground floor room with wheelchair access and full facilities for less able guests.

The garden at the rear of the house is surrounded by trees and fields and bordered by the Inchbrook Stream which passes down the valley from the lakes in Woodchester Park, owned by the National Trust and open to the public. Observing the wildlife in the garden and adjoining field is a great pleasure. Visitors include heron, mallard, nuthatch, kingfisher, woodpecker, buzzard, badger, fox and deer. Recently an otter has been seen.
There are many walks in the vicinity, and we can lend ordnance survey maps and give advice on routes. Minchinhampton, Rodborough and Selsley Commons are close by and offer wonderful views. The long distance paths of the Cotswold and Macmillan Ways are not far away.
Within easy driving distances are Painswick, Tetbury, Berkeley Castle, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust and Westonbirt Arboretum. When touring the Cotswolds we can advise on routes and places to see - hidden valleys, lanes cutting through fords in picturesque and largely undiscovered villages. The lovely City of Bath is only half an hour away as is the regency spa town of Cheltenham.
