Lyme Regis is a picturesque coastal town, steeped in history and set on the Dorset, Devon border.  It is renowned for its dramatic coastline - recently awarded World Heritage status, its fossil beds, fascinating history, and more recently for being used as the location for the film 'The French Lieutenants Woman'. At the heart of the town is the Royal Lion Hotel, with its own car park, situated less than 100 metres from the sea, it's a perfect base from which to explore. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, it has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of it's charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm comfortable atmosphere. Privately owned and managed, the hotel has gained an enviable reputation for friendly service, and first class facilities. |
 | Accommodation The Royal Lion Hotel has 30 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, with a colour TV, radio and tea and coffee facilities. All rooms are centrally heated and have a direct dial telephone. We have a wide range of rooms, with many having either a patio or balcony with sea views. The photographs on this page are of classic and balcony rooms. Please specify the type of room you require when making a booking. The King Edward Room has a magnificent Half Tester bed and is the room King Edward VII used whilst Prince of Wales in 1856. Many of our family rooms have bunk beds and accommodate a family of 4 or 5 comfortably. There are two lounges for the exclusive use of residents. The first floor lounge overlooks the town centre and is a favourite of guests who relax and watch the hustle and bustle of Lyme Regis. The Hotel has a private car park for guests. Our rates include a full breakfast and many of our short break prices include dinner in our restaurant. Children are well catered for and are subject to reduced rates. |
| Restaurant The dining room at The Royal Lion Hotel is fully air-conditioned, its wood panels and simple elegance make it the perfect setting to enjoy dinner with family and friends.
We have a passion for food and service; our chefs use fresh produce, bought locally. Enjoy dishes from our a'la carte or table d'hote menus. The Royal Lion Hotel also boasts a wide variety of wines to accompany your meal, including some selected wines chosen by the manager to be served with some of our seasonal dishes. Children may join the adults for dinner in the restaurant, or we offer a lighter supper menu for children served in the evening. Breakfast is served in the restaurant for residents. Enjoy our full English breakfast, and a wide selection of cereals and breads from our buffet. |
| Bar and Café In the original part of the Royal Lion Coaching Inn, the bar has original fireplaces and panelled walls to remind guests of the history of the room and of Lyme Regis. The bar is well stocked and comfortable and an ideal place to meet before dinner or to enjoy a bar snack.  The bar snack menu has a traditional feel with a selection of hot dishes and sandwiches. Hot dishes are available as well as wholesome children's dishes. The Courtyard café serves the same full lunch menu available in the bar, but will also be open in the morning and afternoon serving a selection of teas, coffee and soft drinks together with home made cakes and biscuits. |
| Leisure Facilities The leisure facilities are some of the best in the area. Our superb 45ft swimming pool has an adjoining spa bath and mini Gym. There are also ample changing and shower facilities.  The pool is heated and open to residents from 7.30am all through the day to 9.30pm. Overlooked by the cocktail bar it ensures that our guests can relax and enjoy their stay whatever the weather. The large games room houses full size snooker, pool and table tennis tables. |
| Parties The Royal Lion Hotel is the perfect venue for a party. With a variety of rooms available we can cater to parties of 2 - 40. Our party menus have a range of suggestions from informal buffets to more formal receptions and dinners.  Our team has a passion for freshly prepared food, complimented by carefully chosen wines. Tables are set to a high standard, and decorated with fresh flowers, whilst buffets menus are planned to give colour and variety. The management team have many years experience catering to parties and weddings and will assist with the planning of your event. Our professional approach means you can relax and enjoy your event with your guests. |
