Location?

The Kings at Ivy House, Buxton, Location, 8KWithout doubt, the Peak District National Park is one of the most beautiful areas in Britain. However, don't take our word for it, let the facts speak for themselves. It is the second most visited National Park in the world, and Ivy House is right here in the middle, near to the pretty villages of Hartington and Tissington.

Personally run by Mervyn and Debbie King, Ivy House is a converted Grade II listed Coaching Inn that dates back to the 1790's when the Ashbourne to Buxton road was part of the London to Manchester trade route. The house itself stands 1000ft above sea level, with spectacular views for several miles to the west. The Kings at Ivy House, Buxton, Location, 8K

To the rear we have our listed stone barns that also date back to the 1790's. Ashbourne, Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock are all close by, as are tourist attractions such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Dovedale and of course hundreds of square miles of prime walking country.

Food?

Our guests have said it many times, and we won't argue, the food we serve at Ivy House is as good as you'll get anywhere.

It's not fancy or pretentious 'Nouvelle Cuisine', but well prepared food using the freshest and finest of seasonal ingredients, cooked to perfection. Our set menu changes daily, with the food freshly prepared in house, on the day.

All the meat and fish is purchased from small dedicated suppliers. The vegetables are either grown in our garden or purchased from a local supplier. All diners are offered a complimentary pre-dinner drink and the meal is rounded off with coffee and mints in the lounge. We are not licensed, but you are welcome to bring your own drink and with prior notice, we are more than happy to cater for special diets.

We believe that an evening meal at Ivy house makes a delightful end to a day's exploring and a perfect way to unwind. Still not sure? What if we tell you that the biggest request we get from our guests is for our recipes!

Outside, the drive leads to a large car park big enough for a dozen cars, our renowned vegetable garden and surrounding the house, a host of various plants and trees . All rather grand!

Atmosphere?

You'll find there's one thing that makes Ivy House different - the atmosphere. From the minute you arrive, you are welcomed into our home as our guest and friend, not a customer. A 'Home from Home' is a phrase frequently used by our guests.

Complimentary tea/coffee when you arrive home each day, advice on where to go and what to do, and evenings spent in long ranging conversations in our comfortable lounge in front of a roaring log fire are all part of the Ivy House experience.

Normally we do not take children under the age of 16. However, we do for such occasions as a birthday, anniversary or family gathering when you book all the rooms. 'Well behaved' dogs are always welcome.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home and offering you a stay to be remembered. If you want to walk, we'll advise you of the best routes. If you want places to visit we'll show you where to go and if you want a relaxed evening with superb food and good company, we'll show you the dining room….
