| Welcome "I have been coming to Cober Hill for the last 10 years. Always, without fail I am received courteously and efficiently and nothing is too much trouble to make myself, and no doubt all the others in the group feel welcome. Your welcome and excellent service is much appreciated and may it long continue in a world of trial and tribulation. Cober hill is a sanctuary of peace and rest." Michael C. Brown, Delegate, Royal Photographic Society. Cober Hill opened as a Guest House in 1920 to provide a centre for residential courses and conference, and holidays for individual guests and families. Special interest groups, religious, social, and voluntary organisations, educational group, from primary children to university students, have all been welcomed over the years. The summer, Christmas and the New Year, have always been very special and happy times for countless guests who over the ears, have become Cober's friends. Cober Hill is held in great affection by so many people, and we hope that as you read this website you will feel that Cober is the place for you. Our founders' aims and aspirations of eighty years ago gave a guiding philosophy that is as relevant today as it was then, and we sincerely hope that you will find the Cober Hill to be as they intended… "…a place of joy and beauty…a centre of refreshment and inspiration…" |
Conferences![]() Cober Hill is the ideal conference venue for training days, brain storming days, board meetings and committee meetings. Out of the town to ensure peace and quiet, yet with easy road and rail links, you will find the setting and ambience are perfect for those hard working days and leisurely evenings. We offer a variety of seminar rooms and informal meeting rooms, from a small boardroom to a theatre style conference for 100 delegates. Relax between sessions with a game of tennis or croquet, perhaps a walk in the gardens or down to the sea. There are opportunities in the evenings to put on a dance or an impromptu concert, or you may prefer to visit the local pubs or see the nightlife of Scarborough. Secretarial Support We give a professional, comprehensive service that includes full secretarial support, with audio visual equipment available on request. Our catering department will tempt you with their imaginative menus, and full consideration will be given to all your dietary requirements. From the time your booking is made, up to your arrival and during your visit, our staff will give you their full attention. We'll take the pressure from you, leaving you free to concentrate on your conference. |
Education![]() Cober Hill excels as an Education Centre. Our Education Officer, himself a retired head teacher, will give whatever assistance he can in planning your visit, and the wealth of resource information he has collected over the years is readily available to you. Primary school children, many away from home and family for the first time, soon relax in our homely and welcoming surroundings, and our staff enjoy reading the children's letters thanking them for the lovely meals, for keeping their rooms clean and tidy, and for their friendliness. Older students from colleges and universities reap the benefits of the educational opportunities to be found in this superb location. "Twenty years of outstandingly successful visits using Cober Hill's excellent geographical location for studying both terrestrial and marine ecology. We have taken full advantage of this first rate accommodation and catering provided by this establishment." Mick Dunne - Senior Lecturer in Science Education Bradford and Ilkley Community College. |
Hobby Holidays![]() Students of all ages, who enjoy learning or improving on a hobby in an informal, friendly environment find Cober Hill the perfect base for a variety of hobby and leisure holidays. Some of these holidays are part of our programme, others are organised by clubs who bring their own tutor. We have seminar rooms that are ideal for spinners and weavers, lace makers, artists and bridge players, and function rooms suitable for activities such as dancing, yoga and drama. Ramblers and naturalists find a wide variety of interesting walks, and are sustained on their days out by our appetising packed lunches. Evenings are a time for relaxing in the lounges or weather and daylight permitting out in the gardens admiring the views. |
Family Holidays![]() Summer Holidays Cober's summer holidays are what summer holidays are all about. A time to meet up with friends, for families to get together, and for everyone to make new friends, and with an optional entertainment programme for both outdoors and indoors, it doesn't matter too much if it rains. During the day there can be croquet, bowls, skittles or putting, perhaps a half day coach outing or a guided walk in this beautiful countryside. For the youngsters there's tennis and volleyball, cricket and rounders, and the little ones can spend busy and happy afternoons in the playgroup. Almost every evening will find something going on. A dance, sometimes country dancing or a disco, an in house concert, or a visit to a theatre. Whist drives, quizzes, beetle drives and bingo - they can all be found here. Of course, there's no obligation to join in the entertainment, and this excellent location offers plenty of scope to do your own thing in the seaside towns and the moors and dales of the National Park.
…are just a few of the many and diverse opportunities for a summer holiday. Short Breaks For those special occasions - anniversaries, birthday parties and reunions, off duty days to relax and enjoy the out of season peace and tranquillity. |
