Chymorvah is situated at the eastern end of Marazion, on the seaward side of the Penzance to Helston Road. It was built by Richard Rooke Michell, a wealthy mine owner in the mid 1800s, who needed Chymorvah to house his increasing family.

The house is solidly built of granite and stands proudly above Mounts Bay enjoying splendid views from The Lizard to Penzance and across to Mousehole. Our one acre garden has private access to a secluded beach with a typical Cornish mixture of sand and rocks, providing hours of interest - building sandcastles, exploring rock pools or sunbathing.

Here at Chymorvah you will be met by a friendly welcome. Besides excellent food in plenty and comfortable beds, you will find a warm hospitality and much happiness, mingled with good service. Children are very welcome and arrangements for pets are considered.

Our house, above the bay, retains some of the elegance of a hundred years ago without making our guests feel as though they are in a museum; for this was a family house and still is - family-run for families.

Once settled in, you will want to explore and we welcome an interest in the house, its history and its surroundings. Although this is now the 21st century, you could be forgiven if you thought you heard the crunch of carriage wheels upon the drive or the shout of the gardener's lad from the greenhouse. It's easy to confuse the gentle sound of the sea upon the beach below with the sound of a rustling evening gown as 'Madam' descends to dinner.

Mealtimes can be arranged to suit any particular needs, if necessary. There are no petty restrictions; you can come and go as you like - Chymorvah is your home while you are with us and our aim is to make your holiday one to remember. We have ample free parking for cars, boats and so-on; and there is a tea-garden serving snacks and beverages all day.

Chymorvah retains much of its interior elegance and once had a four-poster bed. You can experience sleeping here as Ambrose Oxley Michell and his wife Elizabeth once did, for again Chymorvah has a four poster bed, resplendent with velvet drapes. .

All bedrooms are en-suite and have television, direct dial telephone and tea/coffee making facilities. We are open all year except for Christmas and have full central heating. Electric blankets are available if required.

Even our bed linen is special - it's laundered here and dried by clean sea breezes on our Cornish cliff top. As you snuggle down at night you'll smell the difference.

Chymorvah once knew a quality of life and a life-style that disappeared as part of a by-gone age. Immediately you turn into the driveway, you will feel traces of an atmosphere from the days of Queen Victoria, mingled with the timelessness of the wonderful view.

You could enjoy one of our bay-view rooms with a panorama beyond belief. We have improved the interiors of these rooms to try to match the exterior views, and comfort, has come before all else.

If grandeur is not to your taste, then you may enjoy a cosy room with beamed ceilings where the maids once slept. They enjoy the same comfortable furnishings as the other rooms, but have a friendliness about them that is all their own. One can well imagine the gossip and giggles that went on here after the house had gone to bed.

Whatever your choice, the same quality of service and happy atmosphere surrounds all the rooms and their guests.

Our Location

The beach is literally 'at the bottom of the garden' and we have our own private access.

Our town of Marazion is well worth exploring and a 'must' is the walk across the causeway at low tide to St Michael's Mount; or take a pleasant motor boat trip if the tide is in.

The wide sandy beaches of Marazion and the adjoining Long Rock and Eastern Green beaches are on the one hand and in the other direction are a multitude of smaller beaches, some are sandy while others are rocky coves.

Penzance is an old town with many interesting shops including a growing number of antique shops in the Chapel Street area. It has a museum and an art-gallery where a particular feature is the famous Newlyn School of artists. There is the interest of the port and busy harbour and, unusual for Cornwall, the Victorian-style Promenade.

Adjoining Penzance is colourful Newlyn, Britains busiest fishing port, with constant activity on the quays, which are open to the public.

Just a little further along the coast is Mousehole with its pint-sized harbour and picturesque streets.

Space prevents us enlarging on the many pleasures of the coastal footpath, tiny coves with sandy beaches, craggy coves with rock pools and the sheer delight of this part of Cornwall
.

After visiting the Eden Project, why not venture just 40 minutes down the A30 to enjoy a relaxing visit to Chymorvah, overlooking St. Michael's Mount.
