Country Manors and Houses Woolsthorpe Manor (National Trust and Birth place of Sir Isaac Newton) Harlaxton Manor (Gardens featured on TV with Alan Mason) Fulbeck Hall (During World War II it was used for the planning of the airborne offensive of Arnhem) Boothby Pagnell Manor Margaret Thatcher's Birthplace (Just three doors away from us, now a living health clinic) Grantham A market town second largest in Lincolnshire became important in the 12th Century when the Great North Road passed through its heart. The George Hotel was a favourite of Charles Dickens when travelling north and he mentions it in "Nicholas Nicholby" although the façade of the hotel remains and Grade II listed it is now a stylish shopping centre. The famous World War II Dambuster raid was orchestrated at St Vincent's in the town. A permanent display is on show at the town museum. The parish church dominates the town with its impressive squire soaring skyward 282 feet. |
