![]() Healthy Breakfasts-Breakfasts at Birchdale are cooked to order using fresh local produce. Our bacon and sausages are supplied by J. Coxford the local butcher and mushrooms, tomatoes and free range eggs are all bought from the local market. With more people becoming aware of the importance of eating healthily our sausages and lean, smoked back bacon are grilled rather than fried. Alternatively, guests can choose oak smoked haddock delivered to us by our local fish van. Our delicious fruit and nut museli is supplied by Letheringsett Watermill at Holt. To accompany their meal guests can choose from a bowl of fresh fruit and wholemeal, granary or white toast. We are always happy to cater for vegetarians, vegans or others on special diets given prior notice. Breakfasts are served in the pleasant bay windowed dining area overlooking leafy front lawns. |

| Walkers & Cyclists-Unspoilt countryside surrounds the town, perfect for walking, cycling and birdwatching. The Blickling Estate (National Trust) has many beautiful waymarked walks and cycle trails through woods and parklands. To the north of the B1354 (the Blickling road) a network of quiet lanes lead to the stunning North Norfolk coast. The countryside around Aylsham is rich in unspoilt villages (Erpingham, Itteringham, Oulton, Brampton to name but a few) beautiful gardens and stately homes (Blickling, Felbrigg, Wolterton & Mannington). Birchdale has drying facilities for boots and clothing and secure garage storage for bicycles. Bicycles can be hired at the Bure Valley Railway Station in the town or at Blickling Hall (1 mile) |
| Aylsham - In the Middle Ages Aylsham was an important centre for the linen and wool trade. Today, it still serves the needs of a wide area with twice weekly markets and a farmers market once a month. The town itself offers narrow streets full of interesting old buildings grouped around the market square. Keys the largest auctioneers in East Anglia is based in Aylsham where regular auctions of antiques, paintings and books are held. The town is also home to the Bure Valley narrow gauge railway which offers trips to Wroxham and the Broads. Aylsham makes an ideal centre for exploring this beautiful and historic part of Norfolk as Norwich, the Broads and the beautiful North Norfolk coast are all within a range of 12 miles. |
| Eating out - There are some excellent pub restaurants ina nd around Aylsham. The Black Boys Inn is 200 yards from Birchdale and there are several others well recommended by guests within a 3 mile radius. We are always happy to make reservations for guests. |
| Public Transport - there are half-hourly buses to Norwich and Cromer from the Market Square. A Broads Hopper bus with cycle trailer links Blickling to Aylsham, stopping at the Bure Valley Railway Station. |
