| Things to do Falkirk Town Centre Shopping The town centre boasts two large and attractive shopping centres. The Falkirk Wheel The Falkirk Wheel boat lift is an exceptional feat of modern engineering and is already being recognised as an inspirational sculpture for the 21st century. Callendar House Imposing mansion within attractive parkland with 900 year history. Facilities include a working kitchen, clockmaker, printer, general store and garden where interpreters carry out daily chores of the 1820's. Bo'ness & Kinniel Railway The Scottish Railway Preservation Society operates the Bo'ness & Kinniel Steam Railway which has been developed since 1979 on a green-field site by the south shore of the Firth of Forth. Wallace Monument 220 feet (67m) high, this Victorian Gothic tower was opened in 1869 to commemorate Scotland's greatest freedom fighter, Sir William Wallace. Stirling Castle Considered by many to be the grandest of all Scotland's castles. Architecturally outstanding, the castle has strong links with Mary Queen of Scots. She was crowned in the chapel in 1543 and narrowly escaped death by fire in 1566. ![]() |
