An entrepreneur who was known as Henry Pease originally founded the town of Saltburn by the Sea in 1861. Henry Pease is part of the Pease family who originate from Darlington. The family founded the railway known as Stockton and Darlington.
Along the front of the town is what is known as the jewel street as the streets are called Garnet Street, Ruby Street, Coral Street, Amber Street and Also Diamond Street to name a few.
The so-called jewel in the crown for Henry Pease is said to have been the hotel that was known as Zetland. This hotel was thought to be one of the earliest purpose built hotel, which also features its own private railway platform.
The town of Saltburn is home to a vast number of tourist attractions that includes the pier, valley gardens and a vast array of building that date back to the Victorian times.
There are a number of annual events that happen in the town and this includes the Victorian Celebrations and this is commonly referred to as Victorian Week. The Swashbuckle event is a beach event for children and it is based around a pirate theme.
