Wilmslow is situated in Cheshire, south of Manchester. The town is most well known for the number of expensive homes that are located in the area. Visitors will find there are numerous sights to enjoy nearby, including a 16th Century church that still holds regular services on Sundays. The English town of Wilmslow is located within Cheshire. The town is located to the south of Manchester and it is located between Handforth and Alderley Edge. The town of Wilmslow has a population of about thirty thousand three hundred and twenty six. The town of Wilmslow has taken its name from the Anglo Saxon "Wighelmes" which translated means "mound of a man that is called Wighlem".

The town of Wilmslow was in the media limelight internationally during March 1997. The town was in the headlines because an IRA bomb exploded at the local railway station and it destroyed one of the signal boxes. The original message that was given by the IRA has been confusing and it led to the evacuation from the houses around the police station and they were moved to the local leisure centre which was actually not far from where the bomb did go off but luckily no-one was hurt during the explosion.

The heart of the town of Wilmslow is focused around the area that is known as Bank Square, Water Lane and Grove Street. Bank Square was once the location for a lot of the different banks however the name was actually taken from the bank or slope that leads down to The Carrs that are recreational fields.

The town of Wilmslow is the place where clothing giants Umbro first started out and they have their headquarters on the outskirts of the town. The town is also home to the Sainsbury's food technology centre. There is a lot of other big business located within the town and the surrounding area including Amplivox Ultrastone, Interlink Software and also Freedom Finance.
