Ullapool is situated near the Scottish Highlands and is located about one hours north of Inverness. It can be accessed on A835. The beautiful scenery that surrounds Ullapool, including the loch as well as the scenery that is very common in the Highlands, is the main attraction. The town itself is very conducive to pedestrian traffic and offers shops that are ideal for browsing. Those who enjoy walking will certainly enjoy walking through town as well as through the surrounding countryside. Visitors can also take advantage of the local cruises and the numerous festivals that are held throughout the year.

Ullapool is a small town that is located within the highland area of Ross and Cromarty. The town has a population of about one thousand three hundred. This is a small town but it is actually the largest settlement for miles around. This town is a major tourist destination.

The town is located on the eastern shore of Loch Broom. In 1788 the town of Ullapool was founded as a herring port and the Society of British Fisheries did this. Thomas Telford designed Ullapool harbour. The harbour is the centre point of the town as it is used as a ferry port, fishing port and also a yachting haven. Ferries sail to Stornoway from Ullapool. A lot of the pivotal discoveries during the Victorian era were in Ullapool.

During the 1890's the parliament of the United Kingdom gave permission for the railway that runs from Ullapool to the main highland network at Garve, however the insufficient funds for the project resulted in the plans having to be abandoned.

The town of Ullapool has a very strong reputation for being a centre for the arts, music and also the performing arts.

The town has a small museum that is located within Telford Church. The town also has an arts centre, which is called An Talla Solais. This centre has a vast amount of art that is constantly changing and they hold workshops from time to time as well.

The town also features a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a selection of pubs, hotels and restaurants. The town is very popular with walkers and people that are interested in wildlife.
