Manchester Town Guide, T, 2K he excellent Pumphouse People's History Museum can be found on Bridge Street, just off Deansgate.

The exhibition traces the lives and culture of Manchester workers over the last two centuries and includes personal accounts and memorabilia from through the ages.

Equally interesting, the museum also covers the history of working class dissent, with information on subjects such as the Peterloo massacre, the suffragette movement, trade unionism and the fight for fair pay and working conditions.

The Pumphouse People's History Museum is open daily except Mondays from 10am to 4.30pm. Admission costs around £1 for adults, but the museum is free on Fridays.
