Oxo Tower

South Bank, SE1
Nearest Tube: Waterloo

This distinctive building, built in 1928, is located on the south bank of the River Thames near Waterloo station. If you are in the area it is so distinctive that it is hard to miss!

When it was designed there were laws against large-scale outdoor advertising and so the architects cleverly incorporated the company name into the arc deco design. The windows of the main tower spell out the name of the company and so when illuminated from the inside successfully advertise the Oxo company far and wide.

The Oxo Tower has recently undergone re-development and is currently a shopping complex. It includes a glitzy, if pricey, restaurant on the top floor that offers some fabulous views - but if you want a table you'll have to book weeks in advance.
