Notting Hill District

W11
Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate

Notting Hill is the name most commonly used to refer to the area of Kensington north from Holland Park Avenue to Westway.

Throughout its history, the area has been home to both mansions and fine houses - and notorious slum areas. Even today, there is a stark contrast between the wealthier and not so wealthy areas.

In the 1950s the Notting Hill area was the area of London that many immigrants from Trinidad and other parts of the West Indies settled in. As a result there is a vibrant, multi-cultural atmosphere in the area.

The most famous, and popular, reason to visit the Notting Hill area is without a doubt the annual Notting Hill Carnival. Other tourist attractions in Notting Hill include the Ladbroke Square Gardens and the Portobello Road market.
