Muswell Hill District
N10
Nearest Tube: Angel
This part of north London is named after a mossy spring that was located here in the 12th century.
For many years the area was rural and was a favourite country retreat for London's wealthier residents. But like so many of London's district once the railways reached it the area was soon developed as a residential area.
Nevertheless, the area was still favoured by the middle classes, and the present day architecture reflects the elegant Edwardian homes and shopping arcades that were built.
As a result, unlike many parts of north London, Muswell Hill has largely escaped a run-down working class reputation.
