Hornsey District
N8
The district of Hornsey lies in north London, just north of Holloway. There is evidence that the area has been settled since Saxon times and the name is believed to be from the Saxon for "the enclosure of Haer's people".
Until the 19th century the area remained rural, but with industrialisation the area soon became swallowed up in the rapid expansion of London.
Since then Hornsey has remained a predominantly working class residential district, with some areas of the district being quite poor.
