Edinburgh Town Guide, The Hall, 1K The hall is named after St Cecilia, the patron saint of music. It dates from 1762 when it was built by the Edinburgh Musical Society as a place for them to perform, which makes it the oldest concert hall in Scotland.

Edinburgh Town Guide, The Russell Collection, 2K The interior in itself is beautiful, but the hall is probably better known for being home to the Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments, one of Edinburgh's more eclectic museum collections. There are dozens of instruments on display, some of which date back to the 16th century.

St Cecilia's Hall is still used for concerts and recitals today, some of which feature instruments from the Russell collection.

The hall is open to the public but normally only on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, so do check in advance for opening hours.
