One of the oldest buildings within the town of Stafford is St Chad's church this church dates back to the twelfth century. The main part of St Chad's church is decorated in rich patterns and figures, carved into every pillar and archway. The carvings are thought to have been made by a group of stonemasons from the Middle East whilst they were visiting England during the Crusades. A lot of the stonework was covered during he seventeenth and eighteenth century and the church was of a neo classical style.
During the early part of the nineteenth century restoration work was carried out on the church and the decoration that dates back to the Norman times was rediscovered. The church within the town features a computer generated display board and this relates to the history of the church and the mystery that is within the church. St Chad's church is located in the centre of the town opposite the Swan Hotel.
