Shepton Mallet is located in Somerset on the Fosse Way route, which was one the primary Roman road in southwestern England. There are still Roman ruins in the local area. The town is situated approximately 29 kilometers south of Bristol. At one time the area was well known for its wool industry, although other industries have since replaced the wool industry in town. When the last census was carried out in the town it revealed that about twenty two per cent of the population is aged sixteen years and younger, sixty four percent of the population is aged between sixteen years and sixty five years and there is also about fourteen percent of the population that is aged sixty five years and older.
