Most of the dining venues, pubs and hotels are situated in the historical section of the town, on a peninsula, providing guests with a range of different choices while they are visiting. Portrush is particularly well known for three beautiful beaches; East Strand, West Strand and White Rocks. There is also a golf club in the local area, the Royal Potrush Golf Club, which has hosted the Open Championship. Reaching the town is quite easy due to the local railway station.
The Irish seaside resort of Portrush is located within the area of County Antrim on the border with County Londonderry. The main area of the old town includes the railway station and a lot of restaurants, bars and hotels. The town is built on a peninsula that is about a mile in length.
The town of Portrush has a population of about six thousand three hundred and seventy two. About twenty one per cent of the population within the town are made up of people that are aged under sixteen years of age and about twenty three per cent of the population are aged over sixty years of age. The population of the town consists of more females than males as the population is made up of about fifty four per cent females. Most of the population of the town is made up of Protestants with there being about seventy one per cent of the total population. There are only a small number of people aged between sixteen and seventy-four years of aged that are registered as unemployed and this actually makes up about five per cent of the population.
The town of Portrush is classified as a small town within the statistics for Northern Ireland. During the winter months the town is a very quite little place however it is home to a campus for the nearby Ulster University. The town neighbours with the seaside resort of Portstewart.
The lifeboat that was damaged 2008 and was known as Katie Hannan was based within the town. This lifeboat ran aground during a rescue it was carrying out at Rathlin Island.
