Newry is the fourth largest city in Northern Ireland. The town is located approximately 60 kilometers from Belfast. It is one of the oldest towns in the country. The town originally developed as a traditional market down and also became a port during the 18th Century. The town is also well known as offering a range of different shopping opportunities. The city has been very prosperous over the recent years and the unemployment level has fallen to only two per cent.

The city of Newry is the home of the headquarters for the district council of Newry and Mourne. A lot of the population within the city are nationalists.

There are a lot of famous people that come from the city of Newry or the surrounding areas and these include Pat Jennings the former goalkeeper who played for Northern Ireland and the actor Gerard Murphy to name a few people.
