The English village of Mevagissey is located within Cornwall about six miles to the south of St Austell. This village is also one of the min fishing ports within Cornwall. Over the recent years the tourism levels within the village have increased dramatically and this has led to it becoming a bigger industry than fishing.
The village of Mevagissey is nestled within the small valley that is located close to the centre facing eastwards towards Mevagissey Bay. Both the outer and inner harbours are kept very busy with a mixture of working fishing boats and pleasure vessels. The harbours and fishing still remains one of the main industries within the town. The centre of the town is the old area of the town and this area features a lot of narrow streets that are very picturesque. These narrow streets are home to a vast number of shops and places to eat which are aimed primarily at the tourism sector. The more modern outer part of the town is mainly a residential area that has been built on steep slopes and is surrounded by hillside.
Every year at the end of June the town of Mevagissey celebrates what is known as Feat Week. The feat week as the name suggests is a week long event and it features family fin, floral dances and music including street parades. The festival is competed by a carnival and spectacular fireworks display at the end of the week.
The town of Mevagissey is the home to a popular park that is known as Hitler's Walk and this park was named after the 1930's district councillor.
