The Kyle of Lochalsh is a Scottish village located on the northwestern coast. The village is about sixty-three miles to the west of the city of Inverness. The village is located at Loch Alsh entrance across from the village that is known as Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. Historically there was a ferry that once connected the two different villages however this has now been replaced by the bridge that is known as the Skye Bridge that is about two miles to the western side of the village of Kyle of Lochalsh. The Skye Bridge was built during 1995.
The village has a strong shopping centre and transport for this area and also has a harbour and marina that has a pontoon for the maritime visitors. Another attraction within the village is the abundance of scenery and wildlife that the area has to offer and not to forget the pace of life that is slow.
There are a vast number of outdoor activities that take part within the village and its surrounding area and some of these activities are crafting and salmon fishing.
The railway station within Kyle of Lochalsh connects with Inverness using the main line from the village. This railway line was constructed in 1897 in an attempt to improve the transport links within the northwest area of Scotland. The line actually ends on the water edge near where the ferry connection once operated.
This village has been used a lot for filming various documentaries including a series called Great Railway Journeys of the World and this was filmed during the 1980's for the BBC.
