Bircham Windmill is ideally situated in the heart of Norfolk's undulating fields. Built in 1846, the mill remained in full working order up until the 1920's when its sails were removed and it was closed down. Today, few windmills are left in the UK but Bircham Mill has been restored to full working order and is considered to be one of the best remaining windmills in the UK. Why not climb the five floors up to the fan stage, view the milling machinery turning and perhaps even experience the massive sails which are now in working order after a big repair. The mill also offers plenty of activities for families. Children can go into the goat pen and stroke the goat and sheep and feed them with special food from our dispenser. Also our sheep milking has been particularly successful this year and as a result of our newly installed cheese vat we are able to produce more wenesleydale and feta style cheeses which are on sale in our bakery. The bakery also has on offer freshly baked bread and cakes. Entry is FREE to all ground floor areas including the animals, play area, treasure hunt and sheep milking.
