Belvoir Castle, which dates back to the 11th century, is situated a short distance away. Grantham offers plenty of eateries, pubs and accommodations to make visitors feel right at home. Grantham is perhaps best known as being the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher.
Grantham is a town that has been the birthplace of many a historical and influential person, with the likes of Margaret Thatcher, and Sir Isaac Newton hailing from here. One of the most visually appealing and memorable landmarks of this town is Belvoir Castle. Belvoir Castle first began its life as a Norman castle built in tribute to William the Conqueror and whilst originally created for more aesthetic rather than strategic purposes, Belvoir Castle really proved to be a major asset during the uncertain times of the English Civil War.
Surprisingly, the Castle managed to survive and endure the ravages of the Civil War without too much damage, only for the Castle to become severely damaged as a result of a fire that quickly overwhelmed the Castle and its inhabitants. Today we can be grateful that even part of this gorgeous building still remains with us to this day, and although the Castle has majestic rooms which border on opulence due to their exquisite designs, there are also a number of different activities which the visitor can enjoy.
Nature lovers will also want to pay a trip to the Easton Walled Gardens, which has over 12 acres of land devoted to the various different types and species of plants that one can confidently encounter.
