This festival regularly attracts over 100,000 visitors from all over the world, so be sure to book your hotel room in plenty of time if you are visiting Glasgow whilst this festival is being held.
In August, the city holds the annual World Pipe Band Championship where pipe bands from across the globe compete for the highly coveted awards. If you want to witness the ultimate bagpipe experience, this is probably as close as you will get!
Glasgow has a major sporting tradition and was home to the first ever international football match, which was played between Scotland and England in the city in 1872. More recently, the UEFA cup finals have been held here. The city is also home to rugby union and rugby league teams and will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
Glasgow city centre is easy to get around and is based on a "grid" system. Shoppers are well catered for and will head towards the major shopping centres at Buchanan Galleries and also the St Enoch Centre. There is also a good selection of museums and art galleries to keep you occupied during your visit to Glasgow.
