The English town of Fowey is located within Cornwall. The town of Fowey is small civil parish town and it is also the cargo port as it is located at the mouth of the River Fowey. The town of Fowey has a population of about two and a half thousand.
The town of Fowey is mentioned within the Domesday Book that dates back to the eleventh century. The records show that there were priories set up at Trenant and Penventinue and there was also soon to be a prior established at Tywardreath.
The local government within the town of Fowey elects two members to represent the town within the unreformed House of Commons however this changed when the 1832 reform act came into effect. The 1832 reform act stripped the town of Fowey of its rotten borough representation. During 1913 the town was restored as a municipal borough and this was when it merged with the nearby larger town of St Austell. In 1968 there was a borough formed and it consisted of Fowey and St Austell but this was replaced in 1974.
The town of Fowey is located on the southeastern coast of Cornwall. The area is well known for being an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town is located at the end of the Saints Way. There are ferries that operate from the town and these run to Polruan for foot passengers and to Bodinnick for vehicles. There are a lot of historic buildings within the town of Fowey and there are also the ruins of the former St Catherine's Castle.
