Builth Wells, located in Powys, expanded as a traditional Welsh marketing town. Later, it became a popular spa town. It is well known as home to the Royal Welsh Showground. Other well known sights in the local area include Builth Castle, which was constructed during the 13th Century under King Edward I. Visitors will find there are numerous shops in the immediate area to enjoy as well as a variety of dining opportunities in Builth Wells and the local vicinity. The Welsh town of Builth Wells is located within the county of Powys. The town of Builth Wells is a modern day town. The county of Powys is the historic county that was known as Brecknockshire within the middle of Wales. The town lies on the confluence of the River Irfon and the River Wye.

The town of Builth Wells first emerged during the post Roman times and this town grew as a traditional market town in Wales. The town is the national location for the Royal Welsh Showground and this is the home of the Royal Welsh Show.

The castle within the town was built by King Edward the first. The construction of the castle took nearly five years to complete during the 1270's. The forces of Owain Glyndwr attacked the castle that is located within the town whilst it was under he charge of John Oldcastle. The castle was repaired during 1409 and it cost almost four hundred pound to repair it. The town of Builth Wells has a railway station and it is located on the main heart of Wales line.

There is a strong educational network within the town. There is a high school within the town that is known as Builth Wells High School and this school is the local secondary school that is bilingual. During 2000 this school was rated amongst the top sixty seventh schools in Wales for exam results and there is a pass rate of fifty nine per cent however the latest reports shows that the school has now achieved a pass rate of seventy seven per cent.
