Located in Devon, Bideford is situated on the River Torridge. The river is spanned by the Long Bridge, which dates back to the 13th century. The bridge features two dozen arches of different sizes. During the 16th century Bideford was the third largest port in Britain. Several roads as well as a hill have been named after Sir Walter Raleigh as a result of a rumor that he landed the first shipment of tobacco in Bideford.
