Bangor is a fairly large Irish town that is located within the area of County Down. The town of Bangor has a population of about seventy six thousand four hundred and three. This town is actually the most populated town in Northern Ireland.
The town of Bangor is actually a seaside resort located in the southern part of Belfast Lough and it is also situated within the metropolitan area of Belfast. Bangor marina is actually one of the biggest in Ireland and it has achieved status as a blue flag resort. On two occasions 2007 and 2008 Bangor was voted the most desirable place to live in Northern Ireland.
The town of Bangor is primarily a residential area and can in fact be classed as a commuter town ideal for people who are working in the area of Greater Belfast. Bangor is located about thirteen miles east of the centre of Belfast as the town is only about thirty minutes both by bus and train from the George Best Airport situated in the city of Belfast.
During 1848 the first section of the railway between Belfast and County Down was opened and this was later extended to run as far as Bangor. The extension of the railway and the railway station at Bangor opened on the first of May 1865. The railway was closed to goods trains on the twenty fourth of April 1950. On the first of June 1928 the railway station was opened in Bangor west and this station rapidly expanded the service to the suburban area around.
