Mansion House |
The Mansion house, situated on the corner between Lendal and Stonegate, is the Lord Mayor of York's official residence. The house dates from the 18th century and the exterior is a picture of Georgian elegance. And inside are the city's superb State Rooms, which are used for ceremonial and social occasions. The Mansion House also contains the city's civic regalia which includes a 15th century sword, a 17th century Great Mace and the Lord Mayor's Chain of Office which also dates from the 17th century. Unfortunately, because this is the home of York's Lord Mayor, the Mansion House is only open to the public for guided tours by prior arrangement. |
