Edinburgh Town Guide |
One of Edinburgh's most popular tourist attractions, not least for families, has to be its world renowned Zoo.
|
Located in 80 acres to the north east of the city centre, Edinburgh Zoo is the second largest zoo in Britain. Dating from 1913 it is also considered by many to be one of the best zoos in Britain, if not the world, for its breeding programmes, conservation work and research. The Zoo has over 1,000 species of animals and along with the usual chimpanzees and giraffes, there are also some rarer species including pandas and rhinos. But Edinburgh is most famous for the fact that it has the biggest colony of penguins of any zoo in the world - a must for kids! Edinburgh Zoo is open daily but times vary according to the time of year so do check in advance. Admission costs around £6.50 for adults, family tickets are available. |
