Wetherby is situated in West Yorkshire within the borough of the City of Leeds. The town is located on the River Wharfe. For many years it has served as a crossing place due to the fact that it is situated mid-way between Edinburgh and London. The English market town of Wetherby is located in the borough for the City of Leeds. This is a metropolitan borough. The town is located on the banks of the river Wharf and for many years it has been the crossing place and staging place for the Great Northern Road and it is about half way between Edinburgh and London.
Historically the town was part of the West Riding part of Yorkshire. The town of Wetherby has been mentioned in the Domesday Book that dates from 1086. The local folklore in the town states that when the country is hit with heavy snow Wetherby actually gets a lot less as the weather just goes by.
Wetherby Bridge stretches the whole length of the River Wharfe and this bridge has been named as an ancient monument and it is a grade two-listed structure. Due to its location on the main road there was a large number of coaching inns established in the town of Wetherby and some of these are still used today.
The town of Wetherby is twinned with the area of Privas in France. The town is made up of both industrial and residential districts however some of these are not actually officially recognised as settlements.
The town of Wetherby has a population of about ten thousand five hundred and sixty two however the district actually has a population of about twenty two thousand. The district is growing and development is planned within the areas of Micklethwaite which means that the population is set to rise.
