Watford is situated in Hertfordshire and is located only about 31 kilometers from London. It is near the M25 motorway, making it easy to access from London as well as other areas. Watford was historically created as an urban area under the local government act of 1894 however during 1922 it became a municipal borough. The closest London underground station is located in Watford and the closest Overground stations are Watford Junction and also Watford High Street.
The town of Watford is a major regional centre within the northern home counties. This commercial centre is the most westerly and in fact the only one within Hertfordshire. The main shopping centre is Harlequin Shopping Centre, which is a large indoor shopping mall that was purposely built and contains over one hundred and forty shops, cafes and restaurants. This mall was built during the 1990's and it was officially opened in June 1992.
