Manchester Town Guide, M, 2Kanchester's Royal Exchange building is located on Albert Cross Street, just south of the Cathedral.

This building is where vast amounts of trading took place when Manchester was at the heart of the industrial revolution, and as a result it was once considered the most important building in the whole of Manchester.

Today some of the old trading boards still have the price of raw cotton marked on them - the prices on December 31, 1968, the day the Exchange stopped trading.

The building was badly damaged as a result of the IRA bomb in 1996, and so it has had to undergo extensive restorations.

Today the Royal Exchange building is at the heart of the rejuvenated city center. It now contains, among other things, a café / bar and an innovative theatre.
