Edinburgh Town Guide |
The picturesque island of Inchcolm is situated right in the middle of the Firth of Forth and, if you have enough time, makes a pleasant day trip from Edinburgh.
|
Alexander I founded an Augustinian Abbey on the island of Inchcolm in 1123 as a mark of thanks for the help he received from a hermit whilst he was shipwrecked on the island. The Abbey is now a picturesque ruin that is well worth visiting if you have time for it is the best preserved medieval monastery in the whole of Scotland. The island is accessible between April and September when ferries run from South Queensferry. |
