Situated on the Canongate stretch of the Royal Mile, next to the Canongate Tolbooth, you will find Canongate Kirk. |
The congregation of Holyrood Abbey built the church in the 1680s as a new place of worship after King James VII took over the Abbey to serve his Knights of the Thistle. The graveyard is particularly interesting for it contains the graves of numerous important past citizens of Edinburgh including author Adam Smith, poet Robert Fergusson and Mary Queen of Scot's murdered secretary David Rizzio. |
