National Museum and Gallery of Wales |
Located in the heart of Cardiff's beautiful Civic Centre, this is Wales' premier museum and art gallery. The museum part is divided up into galleries and covers all manner of topics including ceramics, coins, fossils, archaeology and Welsh metalwork. The highlight of the museum has to be the "Evolution of Wales" exhibition which traces Welsh history over 4500 million years! The art gallery section is equally impressive, being home to a renowned national and international art collection. Welsh artists are well represented with works from, for example, Augustus John, William Parry and Richard Wilson. And other highlights include its impressionist collection, which includes Renoir's "La Parisienne", and a superb sculpture collection. As well as its permanent collections, the National Museum and Gallery of Wales also houses various temporary exhibitions throughout the year, many of which receive excellent reviews. The National Museum and Gallery of Wales is open daily except Mondays, from 10am to 5pm. Admission costs around £3.50 for adults. |
