| Emmanuel College |
| The University college Emmanuel College, often nicknamed "Emma" College, can be found on St Andrew's Street. It was first founded in 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay who was the chancellor of the exchequer to Elizabeth I. The college has particularly strong ties for Americans for this is where several of the puritan fathers studied before they set sail on the Mayflower. And as a result the puritans named the town they settled in Massachusetts Cambridge. Even more famously, this is also where John Harvard, the founder of Harvard University, studied. Emmanuel College is very pleasant to stroll around for the grounds contain several pretty gardens, as well as a stunning chapel designed by Christopher Wren in 1677. |
