Bristol's excellent Arnolfini Arts Centre is located on the banks of the Floating Harbour, to the south of the City Centre.
It is housed in a renovated Victorian warehouse that was originally used to store tea at the height of Bristol's industrialisation.
The centre was founded in 1961 and it specialises in contemporary art. Since then it has gained a reputation for innovative programmes and excellence, and exhibitions include everything from art, photography and sculpture to performances in film, music and dance.
The success of the centre can be measured in the fact that today it attracts nearly 500 000 visitors each year.
The Art Gallery section is free, the cost of the other shows varies according to the performance.
