The Port Gaverne is a wonderfully nostalgic, old coastal inn situated in a tiny, ancient and time-honoured fishing hamlet overlooking Port Isaac Bay. Here you will find a world you thought has long ago disappeared. The fisherman's cottages still survive, but chamber maids no longer bring water to your room and you won't find Larks' tongues or Swan pie on the menu either, at this atmospheric place. Instead, the rooms are all en suite with every modern convenience, and the food is equal to that of the best restaurants. Or perhaps you prefer the splendid isolation and self-sufficiency afforded by one of the old cottages - all equally as up to date. |
Here you can sunbathe and swim from the small beach, or walk along to Port Isaac, surely Cornwall's most picturesque and unspoilt little harbour, where the fishermen still land their catch and the lifeboat answers the calls of distressed mariners along this part of England's historic coastline. Whether you stay in one of the beautiful, self-contained cottages, or at the inn...whether you come to dine or just linger awhile and sample the atmosphere...you will find that you want to return like so many other before you... |
Legendary hospitality and a warm welcome from the resident proprietor and her staff have created a sort of magic here over the past 30 years, that has attracted visitors from all around the globe, who return to the Port Gaverne time and time again.
Serving not only the best food for miles around, including fabulous seafood and prime quality steaks, but also renowned for its real beer, fine wines and the friendliness of its local customers. |
North Cornwall is one of the last unspoilt places in the British Isles to offer visitors coastal scenery as magnificent and beautiful as anywhere in the world, together with the facilities and hospitality to ensure their return time and time again. The holiday resorts of Newquay and Bude, fabulous sands and surfing beaches at Widemouth Bay and nearby Polzeath, world-famous Tintagel where you will find King Arthur's Castle, and Padstow Harbour, are all close by along the coast. The history of North Cornwall abounds with stories of smugglers and haunted churchyards, and Port Gaverne is ideally situated to explore both its savage coastline and to visit some of the most important prehistoric sites outside of Stonehenge and Glastonbury Tor. Here too, you will find the best golf in Cornwall, with many fabulous uncrowded courses within easy driving distance. |
