|Hawthornbank Guest House is a delightful Victorian villa built in 1873 by localbuilder William Menzies for one of his two sons.|
It is pleasantly situated in a slightly elevated position close to Oban town centre(5 minutes walk), yet in a quiet residential setting. A wooded footpath leads fromthe front garden towards the town.
|Extensive refurbishment and upgrading has been carried out whilst retaining, as faras possible, the period charm of the house which has been awarded the grade of 4 Star Guest House by the Scottish Tourist Board.|

|For your health and comfort, smoking is totally prohibited throughoutthe house and grounds. Bookings are therefore only accepted from non-smokers.|

|The first floor Regency Room enjoys one of the best views over Oban Bay to the islands of Kerrera and Mull.|
The bed is a beautiful Regency four-poster, refurbished and fitted witha modern divan mattress to ensure a luxurious and comfortable night's sleep. This iscomplemented with rich mahogany antique furnishings.
The room is spacious, being originally the drawing room of the house, withintricate ceiling rose and cornice.
|The Victorian Room is similarly fitted out in appropriate style, including animpressive mahogany wardrobe.|
Like the Regency Room, it is located on the first floor, and enjoys a similar view to the West.
|The top floor Seaview Double Room is on the second floor, withcoomb ceilings, and a view to the West over Oban Bay to the islands ofKerrera and Mull, through Velux windows.|
It also has a view to the East over the bowling green to Oban Hill, through a dormer window.
|The top floor Seaview Twin Room is also on the second floor, withcoomb ceilings, and a view to the South West over Oban Bay to the island ofKerrera through a large Velux window.|

|We have three standard double rooms, all facing East to the bowling green and Oban Hill. There are two on the first floor and one on the ground floor.|
|Oban is situated on the West Coast of Scotland and has a railway station withconnections to Glasgow and the south.|
It is a major ferry port from which you can sail to many of the Scottish off-shoreislands.
There is ample off-street parking within the grounds and by choosing to stay here,you can avoid the parking problems of the town centre!
|The dining room features original oak 'Arts & Crafts' chairs, with matchingtables specially commissioned from a local craftsman.|
Breakfast is served from 8 am to 9 am with a full cooked breakfast on offer accompanied by a plentiful buffet.
For guests requiring an early departure, a continental breakfast is available on request from 7 am.
|For those who wish to eat out in an evening, there are a wide selection of local restaurants,offering meals to suit every taste and pocket within easy walking distance.|
|Immediately across the road from Hawthornbank there is the local bowling green withtennis and squash courts, swimming pool and leisure complex.|
|A 5 minute walk takes you into the centre of Oban with its shops and attractions,including a cinema and indoor bowls complex.|

|The ferry terminal offers daily trips to a variety of off shore islands, includingMull where you may be lucky enough to see Otters and the rare Sea Eagle.|
Oban is an ideal base from which to explore Argyll and the West Highlands.
|Directions - When entering Oban from Fort William or Glasgow by car (A85), you will come down a steep hill towards the bay. Turn left immediately after the Kings Knoll Hotel (signposted to the swimming pool), and at the next junction go as near as possible straight across, into Dalriach Road. Pass the new "Atlantis Leisure" swimming pool/sports centre on your left, and we are just beyond, on the right.|
If arriving from Lochgilphead or Campbeltown (A816), drive right through Oban and follow signs for Crianlarich A85 (A82). As you climb up the hill out of Oban (after the two small roundabouts), take the first turning on the right, just before the Kings Knoll Hotel, and then proceed as above.
|Rates vary from £65.00 to £100.00 per night for a double or twin room, 2 people sharing and including breakfast. A single occupancy rate for a standard double room is also available - please enquire for more details.|
