The English market town of Chorley is located within the area of Lancashire that is located within the north west of England. The wealth of the town primarily came from the cotton industry. Up until the 1970's the skyline of the town was dominated by a vast number of factory chimneys however most of these have since been demolished. There are some reminders of the past that include the chimney from Morrisons and there are few other mill buildings. The town of Chorley is the home of the Chorley cake.

The local government of Chorley is made up of twenty different wards and these include Coppull, Chorley East and also Cureden to name a few. Iris Smith is the mayoress at the moment and the current Member of Parliament is Lindsay Hoyle.

Many years ago the economy of the town of Chorley relied very much on mining and evidence of this can still be seen around the town in the form of abandoned quarries especially on the outskirts of the town. The mining industry was replaced by the cotton industry and the related chimneys littered the landscape of the town however only a couple of chimneys still remain. Nowadays the town is very much a satellite town for people that are working within the larger surrounding areas such as Preston and Manchester and within other towns such as Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn. One of the largest employers within the town nowadays is Leyland Trucks and BAE Systems.
