The Welsh town of Wrexham is located in the Dee Valley near the Cheshire border. Wrexham is the main shopping area for the northern parts of Wales and is a centre for commerce, culture and also education.

The town of Wrexham has a population of about forty two thousand five hundred and seventy eight. The wide area of the borough of Wrexham has a population of sixty three thousand and eighty four. The wider county borough of the Wrexham area covers an area of fifty thousand five hundred hectares and has a population of about one hundred and thirty thousand.

There is historic evidence of human activity around the Wrexham area dating back over eight thousand years. The first settlement within this area was commonly known as Wristleham Castle and this castle was located in Erddig Park. The castle was established during 1161.

During the eighteenth century the town of Wrexham was nothing more than a small market town with a population of about two thousand and during this time the town was best known for its leather industry. During this time there was a vast number of tanners and skinners around the town. The horns that were taken from the cattle were later used to make a range of items including buttons and combs.
