Wigton, located in Cumbria, is situated near the Lake District. This small market town is actually a bustling area that is served by the Wigton railway station as well as the Cumbrian Coast Line. The town is also located on the A596 road, making it easy for visitors to reach it. Visitors will discover there is much to see and enjoy in Wigton and the local vicinity. The English small market town of Wigton is located on the edge of the Lake District in Cumbria. The town of Wigton is a very busy little town and the town is located between the Solway Coast and the Caldbeck Fells. The railway station that is located within the town serves the town of Wigton and it is located on the main coastal line of Cumbria. The town of Wigton is located on the A596, which is the main road to Workington and also the A595, which is the main road to Carlisle.

The centre of the market town is the home to a memorial in memory of George Moore. The memorial fountain was built during 1872 and the most notable part is the four bronzes. Thomas Woolner designed the fountain and he also designed St Mary's Church that dates back to 1788.

A secondary school that was known as the Friends School and this school was erected on the northern side of the town and it was built during 1876. This secondary school was a private school and it originally had a population of about eight pupils. The school had the facilities to have two hundred and fifty pupils at one time. The school reached its maximum number of pupils between the 1970's and the 1980's. After the 1980's the school closed its doors.

Nowadays that town is a thriving place for markets and there is livestock auctions held regularly and these are organised by the auction company that is known as Hopes. The main employer within the town nowadays is Innovia Films. The town is home a high school that is known as Nelson Thomlinson School. This high school is a comprehensive school that known for its high performance and it also has close links with the Innovia Film factory.
