Watford is an English town located in the area of Hertfordshire. The town is located about nineteen miles north west of London and it is within the boundary of the M25 motorway. The borough is located immediately north of Greater London. The parish that is known as Watford rural is located to the south of the Watford borough and it is within the area that is commonly referred to as the Three Rovers District.
The town of Watford has a population of about seventy nine thousand six hundred and the borough has a population of about seventy nine thousand seven hundred and twenty six. The Urban area of Watford that includes a lot of the neighbouring area of the Three Rivers has a population of about one hundred and twenty thousand nine hundred and sixty. This urban area of Watford is the forty seventh largest urban area in England.
Watford was historically created as an urban area under the local government act of 1894 however during 1922 it became a municipal borough. The closest London underground station is located in Watford and the closest Overground stations are Watford Junction and also Watford High Street.
The town of Watford is a major regional centre within the northern home counties. This commercial centre is the most westerly and in fact the only one within Hertfordshire. The main shopping centre is Harlequin Shopping Centre, which is a large indoor shopping mall that was purposely built and contains over one hundred and forty shops, cafes and restaurants. This mall was built during the 1990's and it was officially opened in June 1992.
